We are a full service design/build firm that prides ourselves on listening to your goals, meeting your needs, and communicating all aspects of the project to you on time and within budget. Our projects typically range in costs from $50,000 to $600,000.
THE PROCESS
Do you want to add a new master suite over your garage or maybe create an upstairs laundry room or an elegant great room? Maybe it’s a bathroom remodel or you may want to finish your entire basement with an entertainment center and wine cellar?
The most important questions are:
1. Is your project a good match for Bloomfield Construction? 2. Can we develop a design that satisfies your wants and desires and is aesthetically pleasing? 3. Can we start and complete the project within your desired timeframe, and meet your investment criteria? 4. Can this project be built inside your budget?
These are the questions that need to be answered before you entertain price quotations from any contractor! Our project evolution process is designed to answer the questions above.
Initial ContactWhen you first contact us by phone, or by using the project request form on this web site, we will collect basic information regarding your proposed project. In some instances we will have you fill out a “client project questionnaire” That information will be reviewed by our architectural designer & by your project estimator who will contact you for further discussion. If we believe BC is a good match, an appointment will be scheduled to meet at your location to discuss your project in detail. If not, we may be able to refer you to other respected contractors that may be more appropriate.
Initial Meeting
An appointment will be scheduled to meet at your convenience to get more details about your project, and to physically view the site. Our Architectural Designer & project estimator will provide and review with you a presentation package to give you more information regarding BC’s capabilities. We will then discuss your project in detail, take digital photos and measurements, and possibly sketch some initial ideas for design to see if we can visualize what you want. Feasibility, timing and desired investment level will also be discussed. Often we can provide a ballpark cost range for the project in this meeting to determine if the project is feasible economically. If we both perceive we have a viable project that is a good fit for BC, we will proceed to the next step.
Preparing an Accurate Proposal
Our architectural designer & project estimator will develop design concepts, and working with our estimating department, we will develop an initial cost estimate for the project. We may actually send our cement contractor, plumber, electrician or other trade partners to make sure we have accurately defined requirements, or to identify any potential problems that might impact our estimate. If we cannot meet any of the criteria you defined in our initial meeting, we will call to discuss.
Proposal Presentation Meeting
If we believe we have a viable proposal, we will schedule a presentation meeting, usually at our office in Bloomfield Hills. The design, scope of work, and the investment amount will be discussed in detail during this meeting. After this meeting, if you decide to proceed, we will ask for a non refundable financial commitment. This financial commitment is considered as a “scheduling deposit” and will allow us to move ahead on the blue prints, as well as start to plan and develop a preliminary schedule.
Contract Signing
As soon as possible, we will meet again to sign a contract, and to discuss planning and scheduling. The contract will contain a detailed description of the scope of work, and all specifications of materials to be used. We will also provide and review allowances we have defined for things like floor coverings, plumbing and lighting fixtures, cabinetry and counter tops. Upon contract signing, we will submit permit applications to the appropriate building authority.
The above process can take about 3-4 weeks depending on the scope and nature of the project. We believe it is the best way to ensure that you will be getting the best value for your investment. If you don’t have the time or commitment to participate in this process, Bloomfield Construction is probably not the right company for you to work with.Project Commitment
Upon receipt of the required permits, a supervisor will be assigned to your job. We will also call Ms. Dig, order porta-potties and dumpsters, post signs, and install dust and floor protection as required. We will hold a job start meeting with the supervisor, and introduce you to him.
Project Completion
Throughout the project, we will meet at regular intervals to discuss progress, problems, issues or concerns. We believe that frequent and open communication is essential to a successful project. This is truly a partnership between BCC and the client, and mutual trust and confidence are very important.
Post Completion
After the project is completed; we provide a 3-year warranty for workmanship. We will send you a copy of the warranty in the mail as well as a survey for you to fill out. We want to know how you felt through out the entire process and what your feelings are toward us when everything is completed.
The bottom line is: we strive for 100% satisfied customers which lead to referrals.
